Agalya Devy Balaguru
Mdm Agalya Devy Balaguru is an educationist who has an M.Ed in Counselling Psychology, Child Development & Behaviour Management, B.A. (Hons) degree with Education in English and Literature and has over 29 years of experience in various aspects of learning and teaching. She has worked in schools in Malaysia and in the UK, being actively involved in formal and informal education. She holds certificates in counselling and youth work and has worked with young people with emotional and behavioural problems and those with special needs, both in the school setting and in the community.
Agalya has focused on international education for over 15 years, having held various posts in the teaching faculty, middle and senior management teams. She is passionate about being a practitioner in and out of the classroom. She deals with pupils from pre-school through to pre-university level.
As the Principal of AMETIS, she provides leadership, training and direction in realizing the philosophy of the school in ‘Educating Forward’. Agalya is especially proud of her selected team of staff, fondly referred to as the ‘A-Team’.
A mother to two young adults, Vishnu and Vinodh, Agalya keeps her sanity by walking, reading and completing at least two Sudoku puzzles a day!
Linda Rose Laradji
Linda is an innovative and enthusiastic teacher with 44 years of experience in leading and managing schools. She has taught in numerous international schools throughout the world including America, Europe, Kuwait, China and Malaysia. Linda holds a B.Ed Honours degree, National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH), Dip. Math. Ed and Certificates in Education, Teaching More Able and Talented Children and Leading and Managing International Schools. She is currently working towards an M.A. in Leadership and Management in International Schools. Linda is a resourceful leader with an extensive knowledge of the British National Curriculum in both primary and early secondary and the International Primary Curriculum. She advocates a child-centred approach to learning and believes all children can succeed, given a broad and balanced curriculum that caters for their needs holistically.
Linda is an open minded, outgoing and passionate person. She has a keen interest in ancient and natural history. She enjoys exploring new places and meeting people. She likes the performing arts and experiencing various cultures and traditions first hand. Being a reflective practitioner by nature, Linda draws upon her knowledge and experiences to create a truly diverse educational experience for her learners.
She is excited to be given the opportunity to be part of a team that will establish ‘AMETIS’ in line with the school’s philosophy of ‘Educating forward’ and becoming a ‘School of Excellence’.
Ms Thanusha holds a BSc (Hons) degree from University Putra Malaysia, and Masters in Education (Science) from the National University of Malaysia. She has experience teaching and tutoring students from her undergraduate years. She has a deep passion for mathematics and education and so naturally enjoys teaching maths. Every year, she looks forward to working with new groups of students with unique personalities, experiences and ideas. She enjoys a high level of interpersonal interaction by creating positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents and the wider community.
Thanusha has done researches on the 21st learning skills and higher order thinking skills (HOTS) as stated in the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013- 2025 by the Ministry of Education.
She enjoys travelling, cooking and listening to music.
Belinda Ann Lopez
Belinda is a qualified and experienced teacher having taught for 27 years in various international schools and colleges. She has a Bachelor in Management with Honours and the Cambridge International Diploma for Teachers and Trainers. Having a natural fascination for numbers, Belinda is passionate and enthusiastic about Accounting, ICT and Mathematics. She takes pride in the success of her learners and guides them through the latest technology, business initiatives and developments.
With her extensive experience of working with young people in the community setting, she nurtures young learners and supports them in becoming social minded young adults and future global citizens. Belinda believes in a holistic approach and child centred teaching and learning to meet their individual social and emotional needs. She is a team player and has excellent organizational skills which enable her to carry out her duties effectively. Belinda is a keen badminton player and world traveller.
Hicham Lahlou holds a Master’s degree in English linguistics with nineteen years of experience in teaching high school and university English. He is skilled at teaching English for first language learners as well as second language learners. In addition to his academic experience, he has been the Head of the English Department at an international school and Coordinator of the English Department at a university.
Hicham has achieved teaching competence in both academic and behavioural skills. His knowledge about the different teaching methods and experience in teaching students from different cultural backgrounds enables him to employ the most appropriate and effective methods of learning. Also importantly, his knowledge about co-curriculum helps him provide students with life-long learning and connection between curricular and co-curricular education through the use of reflection.
His research interests lie within English linguistics (particularly, semantics, pragmatics, morphology and syntax), cultural linguistics, cognitive linguistics and education. His Master’s research won an award at the National University of Malaysia in 2006. He is currently completing his PhD in English linguistics. Apart from English, Hicham is competent in French and Arabic.
Sivakami is an experienced science teacher having worked successfully in both International and National schools. She holds an M.Sc, a B.Sc (Hons) and a Dip.Ed.
She is passionate about exploring the world of science with young learners through the use of new pedagogies and technology. Her favourite area of science is Biology which she has taught at IGCSE and A – levels with excellent results. She enjoys guiding her students during their practical lessons and engaging in collaborative and cooperative learning activities in the classroom. She believes that every child matters and can excel with guidance and encouragement in their chosen fields. Siva advocates that all learners should be encouraged to be inquisitive and independent in order to succeed.
Siva is a published author and has written texts for STPM Biology curriculum and a coffee table book ‘Memories of my Mother.’
Siva loves to read and organise travel to various parts of the world. She is a keen singer and enjoys listening to music and is also a fantastic cook.
Arul has been teaching for 31 years and gained his initial teaching qualification at the Malaysian Teacher’s Training College (Special Education). Later he obtained a B.A.degree in Business Administration from Ottawa University, USA.
Arul has worked in both National and International schools and colleges in various roles and positions. He has taught a range of subjects from Business Studies to Geography and has been a lecturer of Environmental Health.
Arul strongly believes education should be conducted in the context of the wider world with elements of democracy, human rights and world issues infused in the teaching and learning process. He advocates hands-on experiences with a focus on group work and independent learning.
Arul is a keen sportsman and established the Sports and Co-curricular Department at his previous international school. He has run several half marathons and participated in 10 km runs.
Being an environmentally minded individual, Arul leads by example and expresses his views nationally through the media and inspires others to take action in preserving the environment. A testimonial to his passion in this area is his entering and winning one of the top three prizes in the UNESCO/Asia Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding short story competition.
Avinesh holds a B.A. (Honours) degree in English Language and Literature Studies from the Science University of Malaysia (USM), Penang and a Certificate in Teaching ESL Students in Mainstream Classrooms (TESMC). He started his career in education as a college lecturer and later moved on to teaching young learners in an international school environment. He is passionate about teaching Humanities and Languages.
Avinesh is a born linguist and is able to converse in many prominent world languages. His philosophy is that every child has the potential to break the mould, if given the avenue to do so. Moving away from the ‘textbook only’ methodology, Avinesh advocates and supports the school’s ICT enhanced curriculum and incorporates it within his lessons. He loves experimenting in the kitchen, reading, playing badminton, and travelling, especially when he can sample the local delicacies. Being a local Ipoh boy and a proud alumnus of ACS Ipoh, Avinesh is often referred to as the ‘Ipoh good guide to food” and is consulted by all for the perfect place to indulge.
Ms. Liew is a creative and passionate teacher who holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Microbiology (University of Malaya) - with distinction. She has 5 years research experience in the field of molecular biology in the Department of Medical Microbiology, University of Malaya, where she had several articles published in international academic journals. It was after this experience, that she decided to follow her passion and to become a Primary school teacher in order to instill a love of Science in the next generation.
Ms. Liew aims to ensure all her learners enjoy her lessons by using a range of interactive and creative methods and stimuli. The interactive and colourful displays in her classroom are testimony to this.
Ms. Liew enjoys travelling, reading, baking and gardening in her spare time.
Yim Kam Ling
Kam Ling has been a teacher of pianoforte and electronic organ since 1973 and travels extensively as a learner-professional. She runs a successful Music tuition school in Ipoh, Malaysia, offering a wide range of instrument-studies to aspiring musicians from especially central and north Peninsular Malaysia. Besides keeping a busy teaching schedule, she appears frequently as accompanist and répétiteur for recitals and stage musicals and is regularly invited to judge at competitions where performances of an enhanced standard have been recorded.
Kam Ling’s bubbly personality and passion for subject is easily transferred to her students who look forward to her lesson every week.
Dolly Quah has a life-long passion for Art and Design. She initially qualified as a Corporate Secretary and an Export Manager, however her love for Art led her to be involved full-time in this field. She is a self taught artist and crafter and has been conducting workshops and classes in these areas for more than 17 years. She has also been engaged by Wesley Methodist School, Ipoh as an art teacher. Her creative flair is limitless and is evidenced in the numerous art pieces and craft items which she has created and which have been much sought after. She also has a huge passion for the environment. Most, if not all, of her materials for her art and handiwork are sourced from re-cycled material.
Dolly is equally adept at embroidery, needlework, cross stitch and crochet. Needless to say, all her free time is devoted mainly to art and more art.
Teh Lit Sin
Mr Teh has more than 40 years of experience teaching Physics in both International an Government school. He holds a BSc and Diploma of Education from the University of Malaya. He has held many roles in his longstanding career in education, such as being the senior vocational teacher and senior assistance (co-curricular) to name but a few. Through his teaching, Mr Teh aims to make the learning of Physics fun and to ensure his students enjoy his subject just as much as he does.
Jenny See Yen Lie
Jenny has an MBA in Supply Chain Management from University Utara Malaysia and a BBA (Hons) from University Tunku Abdul Rahman. She started her career in business marketing which, though busy, allowed her to work with different external schooling programmes. After a few years, Jenny decided to shift her career choice into education and has never looked back. Jenny has simple beliefs that as children are the future leaders of the world we need to educate in the beginning rather than counsel in the end. Her enthusiasm and passion for teaching is shown through her interactive and creative lessons designed to enable her students to experience practise Mandarin whilst also enjoying the cultural diversity of the language.
Jenny loves to travel, especially with her backpack as she believes that through travel we are able to better understand a country’s people and culture.
Wong Kok Ken
Kok Ken previously worked in a hospital before he decided to follow his passion and become an educator. He has a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biomedical Science and has experience of teaching at International schools. Kok Ken is actively involved in LPPKN and youth leadership activities and is an active member of the Health Sciences Society.
Ng Hoy Lai
Hoy Lai is an experienced teacher who obtained her degree in Business Administration from UPM. She started off her teaching career in an international school, teaching mainly Mathematics to Key Stage 2 students. She has taught Mathematics to the year 3 to year 6 students and preparing them for the Cambridge International Progressive Papers (CIPP). Apart from Mathematics, she also has the experience of teaching Science, Physical Education and PSHE to the primary students.
A mother of two children, she believes that each child is unique and learns differently, hence, there is no one learning method that’s suits every child. Therefore, every educator needs to understand their learners and involve them in the learning process through various learning methodology.
Hoy Lai is interested in the learning process of young learners and has participated actively in many workshops related to educating children with special educational needs and as such was an invited parent speaker at the National Early Childhood Intervention Conference (NECIC) 2014.
Hoy Lai loves travelling and enjoys reading, listening to music, and going out for movies during her free time.
Harjit has been working in Administrative positions for 20 years and has been involved in many different industries and sectors including, Telecommunications, Private Hospitals, Education and Textile Manufacturing. She joins AMETIS from an international school in Qatar where she has taken on different roles and responsibilities within the school.
Harjit has a range of highly developed organizational and multitasking skills covering a wide range of office environments. She communicates well at all levels and is multilingual, exercising tact and diplomacy at all times.
She has good time management skills and can work under pressure to meet deadlines.
She is a team player and demonstrates responsibility, patience and understands the needs of others. Harjit is confident in using a range of ICT systems and programmes.
Harjit likes working within Education because she enjoys the challenge that it provides.
She enjoys travelling and has been to countries such as the Philippines, Qatar, Dubai, Indonesia and India. She also loves listening to music, playing badminton, walking and watching films.
