Agalya Devy Balaguru
Mdm Agalya Devy Balaguru is an educationist who has a Masters in Education in Counselling Psychology, Child Development & Behaviour Management and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree with Education in English and Literature. She has over 34 years of experience in various aspects of learning and teaching. She has worked in schools in Malaysia and in the UK, being actively involved in formal and informal education. She holds certificates in counselling and youth work and has worked with young people with emotional and behavioural problems and those with special needs, both in the school setting and in the community.
Agalya has focused on international education for over 20 years, having held various posts in the teaching faculty, middle and senior management teams. She is passionate about being a practitioner in and out of the classroom. She deals with pupils from preschool through to pre-university level.
As the Principal of AMETIS, she provides leadership, training and direction in realising the philosophy of the school in ‘Educating Forward’. Agalya is especially proud of her selected team of staff, fondly referred to as the ‘A-Team’.
Agalya keeps her sanity by walking, reading, and completing Sudoku puzzles every day!
Mr Arul has been teaching for 32 years and gained his initial teaching qualification at the Specialist Teachers Training Institute (MPIK) in 1994. Later he obtained a B.A in Business Administration from Ottawa University, Kansas, USA in 1999 followed by a Masters in Management (MM) from Open University Malaysia in 2013.
Arul has worked in both National and International schools and colleges in various roles and positions. He has taught a range of subjects from Business Studies to Geography and has been a lecturer of Environmental Health and Malaysian Studies. Arul strongly believes education should be conducted in the context of the wider world with elements of democracy, human rights and world issues infused in the teaching and learning process. He advocates hands-on experiences with a focus on group work and independent learning.
Arul is a keen sportsman and established the Sports and Co-curricular Department at his previous international school. He has run several half marathons and participated in 10 km runs. Being an environmentally minded individual, Arul leads by example and expresses his views nationally through the media and inspires others to act on preserving the environment. A testimonial to his passion in this area is winning one of the top three prizes in the UNESCO/Asia Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding short story competition in 2013 titled ‘The Green Hope’.
Ms. Liew is the Head of Primary School and teacher in the department. She is a creative and passionate teacher who holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree with distinction in Microbiology from the University of Malaya. She has 5 years research experience in the field of molecular biology in the Department of Medical Microbiology, University of Malaya, where she had several articles published in international academic journals. It was after this experience, that she decided to follow her passion and became a Primary school teacher to instil a love of Science in the younger generation. She has more than 7 years of teaching experience in Cambridge International programmes.
Ms. Liew aims to ensure all her learners enjoy her lessons by using a range of interactive and creative methods and stimuli. The interactive and colourful displays in her classroom are testimony to this.
Ms. Liew enjoys travelling, reading, baking, and gardening in her spare time.
Mrs Florence Gerald
Mrs Gerald holds a BA ITT (Hons) degree and Masters in Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching from St Mary’s University, London. She has vast experience in teaching both in Malaysia and in the UK. Mrs Gerald is a reflective practitioner with over 18 years of experience in education and community service. She is passionate about raising educational standards and goes all out to ensure that all students reach their potential. Above all, Mrs Gerald is a team player, and her positive and patient characteristics foster meaningful relationships with students and staff.
Her passion lies in believing that all under-achievers can do better. She strives to build self- esteem and confidence by encouraging and motivating her learners. She enjoys reading, walking, travelling, cooking, and listening to music.
Ms Thanusha holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree from University Putra Malaysia, and a Masters in Education (Science) from the National University of Malaysia. She has experience teaching and tutoring students from her undergraduate years. She has a deep passion for mathematics and education and so naturally enjoys teaching Maths. Every year, she looks forward to working with new groups of students with unique personalities, experiences and ideas. She enjoys a high level of interpersonal interaction by creating positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents and the wider community.
Thanusha has done research on the 21st century learning skills and higher order thinking skills (HOTS) as stated in the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013- 2025 by the Ministry of Education.
She enjoys travelling, cooking and listening to music.
Ms Harjit has been working in Administrative positions for over 24 years and has been involved in many different industries and sectors including, Telecommunications, Private Hospitals, Education and Textile Manufacturing. She joined AMETIS from an international school in Qatar where she had taken on different roles and responsibilities within the school.
Harjit has a range of highly developed organizational and multitasking skills covering a wide range of office environments. She is multilingual and communicates well at all levels, always exercising tact and diplomacy. She has good time management skills and can work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Harjit is a team player and demonstrates responsibility, patience and understands the needs of others. Harjit is confident in using a range of ICT systems and programmes. Harjit likes working within the education sector as she enjoys the challenge it provides.
She enjoys travelling, loves listening to music, playing badminton, walking and watching films.
Belinda Ann Lopez
Ms Belinda is a qualified and experienced teacher having taught in various international schools and colleges. She has a Masters of Education, Bachelor in Management with Honours degree and the Cambridge International Diploma for Teachers and Trainers. Having a natural fascination for numbers, Belinda is passionate and enthusiastic about Accounting and Mathematics. She takes pride in the success of her learners and guides them through the business initiatives and developments.
With her extensive experience of working with young people in the international school setting, she nurtures young learners and supports them in becoming social minded young adults and future global citizens. Belinda believes in a holistic approach which is child centred teaching and learning. Her teaching focuses on meeting each learner’s social and emotional needs. She is a team player and has excellent organizational skills which enables her to carry out her duties effectively.
Ms Nushanthini Govindaraju
Ms Nushanthini grew up in a small town called Gopeng in Perak. Inspired by her family’s background in medicine, she completed her Diploma in Pharmacy in 2012. Later, she developed an interest in special educational needs and pursued a degree in Bachelor of Early Childhood Education. She has been in the Child Development field for the last five years. Her added knowledge in the medical field helps her to take care of the special needs of the children.
Ms Nushanthini is a patient educator who collaborates successfully with children, parents, and staff. She is committed to encouraging children towards developing empathy by teaching them to share and be attuned to one another’s feelings. She reads stories aloud to her children, teaching and encouraging children to tell stories too, and finds unique ways to illustrate to them as she believes it enhances their imagination and facilitates comprehension and literacy. Ms Nushanthini has attended several educational trainings on current constructive, hands-on approach in managing an effective classroom such as the Permata International Conferences, National Conference on Autism, Inclusion & Supporting Families and Special Education Network in Malaysia (4th Annual Conference).
She is currently pursuing her Master’s in Early Childhood Education.
Dr Jessinta has a Doctoral Degree in Bioprocess Engineering; and a Master’s and Bachelor’s Degrees in Applied Science (with Honours) in Industrial Chemistry. She has been studying and researching in the field of Science and Chemistry for the past 12 years. Dr Jessinta is skilled in various Chemistry fields such as organic, inorganic, physical and analytical. She has published several articles in international journals and has received several gold medals and the ‘best of the best’ awards nationally and internationally.
Dr Jessinta strives hard to meet the learners’ needs and learning goals, by guiding the learners through a comprehensive understanding of reactions, investigations, and experiments. She enjoys traveling and has received sponsorship from France and Japan to participate in international conferences.
Ms. Renasheni holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Science (Mathematics) & Education with first class honours from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI). She is a passionate and dedicated teacher.
Her genuine enthusiasm and passion in teaching and learning shows in her commitment and hardworking nature. One of her goals is to inspire students to develop a positive attitude towards learning Mathematics. She is technologically savvy and proficient in using online learning platforms to foster interactive learning.
Ms Renasheni is goal-oriented, driven and motivated to help students and teachers. She has good classroom management skills and works well under pressure to meet deadlines and above all she is a team player. In her spare time, Ms. Rena enjoys watching movies, reading,
listening to music and travelling.
Ms Arveen has 15 years of experience in teaching young children. She has built her teaching career based on the philosophy of being resilient, dedicated and patient. Ms Arveen holds a Cambridge International Diploma in Teaching and Training (CIDTT) from Cambridge University, a Certificate in Teaching Studies from Queens University, Belfast and a Diploma in Information Technology.
Ms Arveen’s strength lies in being determined to help children learn according to their own pace and learning abilities. She believes that all students come with different learning abilities and talents and it is the duty of the teacher to bring out the best in every child. She strives to understand the learners’ needs and provide a conducive learning environment to help them achieve more.
Mr Avinash Ravichandran
Mr. Avinash is a dedicated and avid educator with a passion for language and literature. He holds a B.Ed. (Hons) in Teaching English as a Second Language with Distinction from University of Malaya (UM). His love for teaching began in his pre-university days, where he began tutoring his peers. He has experience teaching students of all ages and levels.
Mr. Avinash also has a strong passion for literature and drama. He has minored in Literature in Education in UM and has been the lead actor and production designer of the TESL Theatre Production. At AMETIS, Mr. Avinash unleashes his creative, kinesthetic, and fun teaching approaches in subjects such as English, History, Geography and Literature & Drama.
As a strong advocate of individualistic learning, Mr. Avi makes sure each of his students are catered for using the right approach and methodology. Beyond teaching, Mr. Avi is a gamer who loves Single Players. He also enjoys travelling for food and weightlifting.
Ms Mansimaran Kaur
Ms Mansimaran@Simran is a highly motivated and enthusiastic teacher who holds a Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) degree in Science and System Management (with distinction) from the National University of Malaysia. She started her career as a Software Engineer in HSBC Software Development (Malaysia) for 3 years and later decided to pursue her passion of becoming an educator. She is keen in ICT, Mathematics, Biology and management subjects.
Ms Simran aims to create a culture of achievement within the classroom and beyond. She looks forward to motivating and encouraging learners to do better and achieve more. She applies different methods, enhanced with ICT, for teaching and learning activities. She is keen to share the latest knowledge on mainframe computers, networking technology and
programming languages with learners.
Apart from her technical competencies, she is a team player and her pleasant manners and good communication skills allow her to quickly connect with children from all backgrounds and levels.
